Therapy is also for Christians

Am I the only one who just LOVES the Fall overall? The hot cocoa, the coffee, the Starbucks Christmas cups making their appearance, the cozy feels, the pretty trees, etc. It feels comforting and safe.

Depression. An icky word we like to shy away from… Seasonal depression is at its peak around this time. You might have noticed it gradually getting darker earlier these days. However, it would be remiss of me to ignore a common trend during these times.

We ALL must remember that God knows exactly how you feel. Yes, the almighty, ubiquitous, all-knowing God knows what it feels to be depressed. How do you think He touched on the cross? Pretty depressed, I'm sure. It is not shameful; it is not wrong.

He told us, "In this world, you WILL have trouble. But take heart!! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). This "trouble" that Jesus spoke of includes depression.

From the moment you were born and even before that, He knew when and precisely what would cause your depression. He also knows when and what will cause you to overcome it.

I don't want to suggest prayer. Let's be honest, when people tell you, "just pray," when you're experiencing hell on earth, you often can't help but get angry. Yes, prayer is indeed best when you don't want to do it. But sometimes, you need some extra motivation to get you to that point.

There is nothing, nothing, nothing, NOTHING wrong with getting professional help. There is NOTHING wrong with therapy. It is HEALTHY. Christians are not exempt from treatment. Please do not buy into the ridiculous idea that medicine is for the weak. It is not. The strong admit when they need help. The Lord has put professionals on this earth suited to help when we are experiencing depression.
